This is the area where Rembrandt van Rijn was born in 1606. His father was a miller, and the mill on the left is a replica of a mill he worked. His birthplace was off to the right of this photo. Unfortunately the Leiden council decided to demolish the house he was born in around 1920. What remains is a plaque on a modern apartment building. Luckily, we still can enjoy his paintings.
I intend to. We were only there five days for a conference, so we visited museums in The Hague and Delft, as well as the beautiful old churches. I’m a fan of Vermeer, so we got to see many of his pieces. It was a great trip and I look forward to being able to come back! Love your photography!
Ah, so many times I walked across that bridge to get to uni. Every time I would pass the incredibly ugly row of houses where once Rembrandt’s birth house stood. Luckily the view in this photo is a lot prettier!

I visited Den Haag in September of 2016 but didn’t get to Leiden. It will be a stop on my next trip to your beautiful country!

Include Amsterdam too if you want to see more of Rembrandt’s painting!

Well, Leiden was a poor city for ages, it is too bad the house went down. And the apartments house people who need a roof over their head!

Goes without saying. 😉

But it is a shame and they could do better than that statue of a boy in front of a face of Rembrandt!
