One of my favorite activities while being on the road in the passenger seat, is snapping photos. Here a drive by of Schiphol Amsterdam Airport.

Church and Cows

The Netherlands, Rijnsaterwoude – September 2020

The theme for Lens-artists Weekly Photo Challenge #115 is ‘Inspiration’.

The Dutch landscape is a continuous source of inspiration. Sometimes in a wide view, sometimes in a close up to pick up some details. A church on a dyke, cows in the polder.

Seeing something big, like a big field of heather, is always a prompt to be inspired. Even when it rains.

Cantal France 1993

France, Cantal – August 1993

The theme for Lens-artists Weekly Photo Challenge #115 is ‘Inspiration’.

An old travel photo from 1993 in France. The Cantal is a beautiful area with no longer active volcanoes. Landscapes inspire me. This one was amazing.

Polder

The Netherlands, Rijnsaterwoude – June 2020

The theme for the weekly Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #99 is ‘old and new’.

A polder is a piece of land below the surrounding water level. It is artificial because it is created by man. Dykes are build to make it dry and keep the water out, and canals are made to pump water out, dumping it in canals that eventually bring it back to sea. In the background you see a dyke: behind the dyke is water of a lake. If the dyke was not there you would look at the lake :-). So this is old and new land.

Afterglow

The Netherlands, Voorhout – May 2020

The theme for the weekly Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #97 is ‘pastimes’.

Normally the bulb fields attract tourists in the Spring. The colours are always fantastic to see. Let alone the smell. In The Netherlands we are in an intelligent lockdown since March 12th. To prevent people from flocking into the bulb fields the growers decided to chop the heads sooner than normal. After all the bulbs that are on the field are meant to be sold, you can order them online from August. The flowers are taking too much strength out of the bulbs, that is why they are chopped off after flowering. Last weekend we spotted two fields still in bloom, and decided to have a closer look on a bicycle ride. This is what we found.

Sunset over the field

The Netherlands, Katwijk – May 2020

The theme for the weekly Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #97 is ‘pastimes’.
During the intelligent lockdown we can make short bicycle trips to have some excercise and see the beauty of nature bursting out in Spring. Yesterday I posted two motor powered parachutes against the sky. This is taken from the same viewpoint.

Going Back – The Second Time Around (Tibet)

Tibet, near Shigatse – March 2004

The theme for the weekly Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #92 is ‘Going Back – The second time around’.

In March 2004 I visited Tibet. It would be an understatement if I said it was overwhelming.
The backdrop of the Himalaya, the fact that most of the time we were 3500 meters or higher above my normal (sea) level.
The people and close contact with Buddhism. All parts of a puzzle that hopefully will bring me back once more.

Tulips 6 and a virtual visit to the Keukenhof

The Netherlands, Oegstgeest – April 2020

The theme for the weekly Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #91 is ‘simplicity’.

A series telling the story of a vase of yellow and red tulips. Being lazy basically and trying out a new iPhone 11, I took this series, telling the story of a bunch of tulips in a vase.

Normally we would be out admiring the bulb fields in full bloom. This year we can not.

The Keukenhof (a beautiful garden with 7 million flowers in bloom) is closed as well.
On Facebook they publish videos of the garden. If you enjoy flowers it is a great place to feed on colours and bright, uplifting images of nature.

As flowers open their hearts to us, we need to open up and share our empathy to each other. Stay safe, stay healthy. Whatever the politics is, we are all in this together as mankind. We can only get through this together.

Slane Hill in Ireland. Close to Slane Castle castle that is famous among other historical facts, for being the recording site for U2’s The unforgettable fire’ in 1984.
Never judge an album by its cover, but part of the castle burned in 1991, but was restored in 2001. Slane Castle is also famous for its concerts and festivals; a lot of famous band and artists performed there.

Outside the village is The Hill of Slane with a small old ruined chapel, a ruined monastery and a graveyard, overlooking the landscape and the river Boyne.

The theme for the weekly Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #78  is ‘spot’. Show a special spot in a shot is the brief.
Each time we travel from or to the UK by Eurotunnel, this site next to the motorway draws my attention. A wood of pylons emerges, displaying big power lines in the air.
It is like an army that comes out of the soil. Luckily my wife does most of the driving, so I have my hands free to snap about when we pass this point.
