The Netherlands, Katwijk aan Zee – August 2023
A windy day with some beautiful clouds on a Sunday at the beach in Katwijk. The clear views showed the curve of the coastline, with the silhouette of Scheveningen in the south, and beyond that, the harbor of Rotterdam.

This week’s Lens Artists Photo Challenge #221 is ‘favourite flowers’. The mild weather makes the garden explode in last flowers. This rose is one of them.

The theme for this week’s Lens-artists Photo Challenge #176 is One image/one story. That theme matches the subject of my photo blog: What’s (in) the picture? Finding stories. Photo’s tell stories. My story (what made me click my shutter), and the story of the spectator.

Since the pandemic started we worked from home. But now we start up to work at home and a few days at the office. Hybrid working. I enjoyed being on a train again, seeing the landscape, so familiar but so pleasingly fresh and new to my eyes, passing by. And yes, of course you meet a signpost on a photo.

We did not have a lot of Summer yet, grey and wet, cold weather so far.

The theme for his week Lens-artists challenge #150 is ‘Let’s go wild’.
The Netherlands does not really have original wild parts where nature still rules; we do have nature, but nature is being managed. We manage and maintain our dense populated country all over, to achieve efficiency (the post stamp like farm fields, outlined by straight canals from the sky, a view tourists seem to enjoy approaching Schiphol Airport etc) or benefits of scale and standardization. But not all can be controlled. One thing we have to adjust to and have no control over is the weather and the effects of climate change. Spring was very wet and had heavy showers. We can manage the extra water and rising sea levels, but the intensity of the rain is a more and more a given.

The theme for his week Lens-artists challenge #145 is ‘getting to know you’. In Spring work on the garden starts, to prepare for Summer and warmer weather, outside dining and cooking, relaxing in the sun, reading a book. Flowers through a rainy window after the sun comes out again.

The theme for his week Lens-artists challenge #145 is ‘getting to know you’. A phenomenon I know my entire life is the weather. However, it still has it surprises, ice rain on a Spring Day?

The theme for Lens-artists Weekly Photo Challenge #120 is ‘what a treat’.
Coming back to an area I visited a long time ago in my youth, brings back memories about the past. The beauty of nature is sometimes overwhelming, even when it rains.
