Faerie Tale Land (spot the differences)

Germany, Heimbach – November 2016

The theme for Weekly Lens Artists 125 is ‘you can pick it’.

Yesterday I posted the monochrome version of this photo. They do differ, not only in color. I wonder which one you prefer.

Shot with Nikon D500, edited using Snapseed and Marksta. Click the picture for a bigger version

A lovely image Chris. I strongly prefer the color image because of the light on the trees which doesn’t stand out in the mono version. The clouds in the mono however are beautiful.

Hi Tina! Yes, both versions have their pro’s and con’s. I agree that the color one is more delicate in shades and details. The mono one brings out a bold overall atmosphere. Both are quite nice in my humble opinion. Thank you for giving your remarks!

I am always a fan of monochrome images (see my challenge-response that will publish tomorrow.) However, in this case, I prefer the color version as it appears to make the village and autumn leaves stronger elements in the image.

Excellent. Although you are a master of monochrome, IMO, I favor this color photo more of the two, as I hope faery tales lean to the light-hearted and colorful.

I like both but the monochrome one , for me, is just slightly more impressive because the light showing at the edge of the hills and illuminating the clouds above seems brighter and more vibrant.

Thank you Patti! Both are totally different in atmosphere. It is about your personal taste I guess. Today I posted a mono to a color again, a view from a window.

Both beautiful images Chris. I’m drawn to the black and white version because of the dramatic sky. Is the sky the difference? Great work on both.
