I like birch trees. I love the fine detailing from the stem, to branch to the twigs. From big to delicate. A birch can be intimidating, towering over me.
Looking up a birch gives me a feeling of humility. This photo is from 1979, a time when i was printing in a darkroom on paper. And loved big abstracts in monochrome.

Traditionally in The Netherlands the new year starts with private fireworks (this year people spent 77 million euro). Over the years this party has turned from pleasure over to concern. There is an increasing flow of illegal fireworks (like avalanche bombs), more damage to public and private goods, and increasing aggression towards services. And on top of that an increase in injuries and at times loss of life. The public and political debate at the moment is about a ban of private fireworks. One alternative could be to replace them by formal local firework events and/or a big national event..
The burst function on an iPhone works well shooting this ‘popping’ scenes. However, the quality and control of light is less than with a system camera or dslr.
