Over

The Netherlands, Oegstgeest – April 2022

North West winds mean a lot of planes coming in over our house. Every 90 seconds. Between 1000 and 800 feet, making their approach on Schiphol, 20 kilometers away. The sound is annoying at times, but they do deliver nice images.

Red Field

The Netherlands, Voorhout – April 2022

The Lens-artists challenge #197 is ‘rule of thirds’. The rule of thirds is a rule of thumb how to compose images. But a photo that creates a journey of the eye can also be made by using lines and colors. Even when the horizon is not on 1/3.

Meting Delta

The Netherlands, Schiphol Amsterdam – April 2022

The Lens-artists challenge #196 is ‘humor‘. A bit of a weird moment meting a Delta plane overhead.

Au clair de la lune

The Netherlands, April 2021

This week lens artists photo challenge is ‘that special place‘. The moon is a big inspiration for stories and songs. The Dark Side of the Moon is a brilliant album by Pink Floyd, Mad man Moon on Trick of the Tail by Genesis, R.E.M.’s Man on the moon, Moon over Bourbon Street by Sting are some of them. And of course a French folk song ‘Au clair de la lune’. And the moon has impact on our lives on this planet: the moon causes tides on seas, and apparently has impact on the menstrual cycle.

12.10

France, Caylus – September 2006

The weekly LAPC (Lens Artists Photo Challenge) #182 is ‘interesting objects’. This is the front of the city hall of Caylus. The clock and the shutters caught my attention, together with the deep blue sky.

Pont de Normandie (deux)

France, Le Havre – September 2008

Yesterday I posted a photo of the Pont de Normandie. Today another one in monochrome showing the ‘hill’ effect and its beautiful shapes.

This week’s Lens Artists Photo Challenge #181 is double dipping: send in a photo that is related to another creative challenge on WordPress. This photo is a response to the monthly Thursday special of Lost in Translation. A beautiful blog with great creative photography. Each month one can enter photo’s portraying words: in December 2021 Introspective, Anticipating, Befriending, Choices, Wish.
This photo describes anticipation and choices. If you choose to cross a bridge like this, what will it be like?

Pont de Normandie

France, Le Havre – September 2008

Pont de Normandie is a beautiful bridge over the river Seine between Le Havre and Honfleur. It towers over you as you approach it. The first time I passed it I was in admiration and also in awe.

Walks

England, Wells next the Sea – September 2021

The theme for this week’s Lens-artists Photo Challenge #176 is One image/one story. That theme matches the subject of my photo blog: What’s (in) the picture? Finding stories. Photo’s tell stories. My story (what made me click my shutter), and the story of the spectator.

From the archive: Roof Terrace 1992

Greece, Chania Crete – August 1992

This week’s Lens Artists Photo Challenge (#164) is ‘Looking Up/Looking Down’.

Again one from the archives and hence monochrome. In August 1992 I visited Crete and old town of Chania. This was the view up to a very appealing roof terrace.

About the B4 retouch series:
I browsed my archive for pictures to publish. Some of them are partly retouched but most do have scratches, dust and stains.

Where Cows Once Grazed

The Netherlands, Oegstgeest – August 2021

This week’s Lens Artists Photo Challenge (#162) is ‘all about the light’.

This artificial lake used to be meadow. The lake was created by dredging sand, that was needed for roads, new build areas and a railway line. And now it is a recreational area, Klinkenberger Plas.

This will pass

The Netherlands, Oegstgeest – August 2021

This week’s Lens Artists Photo Challenge (#162) is ‘all about the light’. This Summer is what it is, not the best one we had. Grey, cloudy, rain, and from time to time some sun in between.

Samos 1983

Greece, Samos – July 1983

The theme for Lens-artists Weekly Photo Challenge #158 is ‘Along back country roads’.

The airport of Samos is just near a beach. Luckily there were about two flights a day. The backroads of the Greek islands are the ferry services between them.

About the B4 retouch series:
I browsed my archive for pictures to publish. Some of them are partly retouched but most do have scratches, dust and stains.

The picture was originally shot with Pentax K1000 on Kodak Plusx, scanned from negative and tweaked using Snapseed and Marksta. Click the picture for a larger version.

Evening Clouds

The theme for this week Lens-artists challenge #154 is ‘one photo two ways’. These clouds I shot at dusk. I was curieus what the iPhone would do in low light. These are four shots of the sky. They vary on zoom/frame and one I adjusted the light measuring. So two times two.

Couple

The Netherlands, Oegstgeest – May 2021

The theme for his week Lens-artists challenge #150 is ‘Let’s go wild’.
Near our house there is an artificial lake created by the need for sand for infrastructural building. The sand was used to build a railway and as a base for houses and roads. On the banks is big nest box for Sand Martins. They come all the way from Africa and normally hatch in steep river walls. After creating their offspring they move back to Africa. In the setting sun they play in the sky, chasing each other.
