Heavy rain can create chaos with loads of water and strong winds. Here the sun shines, on the horizon the rain darkens the sky.

Chaos in the end results into an order of something new in a different form or shape. It is about flow and freedom to play and create and destroy. For me clouds fit that picture especially when they tower over us as giants looking down on our flat land.

“To change in appearance or form, especially strangely or grotesquely; transform.”
Brighton – like other cities – transforms. If it is grotesque or strangely I am not sure. I do like the contrasts though.

This weekly theme is nostalgia.
Travelling through the West of Belgium always brings back memories of Jacques Brel, one of Belgium’s most famous citizens. He had a love hate relationship with his country of birth, and particularly did not like Dutch as a language. Most of his songs are in French. One of them is about Belgium, Le Plat Pays translated in Dutch as Mijn vlakke land.

The moment I saw this scene on a hot Sunday afternoon in Valletta on Malta, I knew I had to take a photo. In my imagination there are lots of stories about the woman, and why she was walking there deep in thoughts. Maybe she was bequested by life at that moment. Sometimes I feel that taking a photo at a certain moment is like being an intruder in someone’s life. This is one of these moments.

This weekly them is ‘edge’. That can be a visual edge on a subject. But it also can be the way a restaurant is providing ambiance in an artful interior, a wonderful ‘home’ feeling and fantastic food in the middle of a beautiful environment. If you are ever in Norfolk near Cromer, visit the Gunton Arms. Please book in advance.
