This week’s Lens Artists Photo Challenge #265 is ‘Black and White or Monochrome’. I love working in non color. I am not interested if it is black and white and grey tones or a one color/tone photo.

So here a photo that might be black and white and monochrome.

I developed my skill to identify a good monochrome or black and white photo when I still used film. Translating colors into grey tones is important. If you do not ‘see’ it immediately then see if your camera or phone has a black and white setting. Contrary to an old analogue camera your tests are free and you can see the result immediately. I prefer to shoot in black and white , not in color. Either by using the ‘mono’ setting of my iPhone, or an app like Blackie or Lenka.

Peter Gabriel Amsterdam

Some iPhone shots of the Amsterdam show of the i/o tour, a fabulous show of Peter Gabriel and his wonderful band. The artwork was amazing to watch, each song got a different artful backdrop. When you are 73 years old and still able to touch people this way, creating new work.

Visiting concerts like this makes me dream of being able to bring a proper camera and shoot it from the front of the stage and backstage as a concert photographer. That would be wonderful and challenging. Now it is a look from the distance meeting the limitations of the iPhone; which is by itself a really remarkable camera.

Flower Fields

The Netherlands, Voorhout – April 2023

At this time of Spring the bulbfields deliver their richness and beauty in rows of flowers, stretching over the land like post stamps. Living in this area of The Netherlands for a long time, this is quite a ‘normal’ event. I try to remember the first time I saw it as a child, being amazed by the perfume and splendour of the fields, just to keep me appreciating it as it should.
