Travel has taught me to be bold and kind to try and make contact and produce the photos you really want. But sometimes you have to pay money as well. La Défense is a big, modern office area in Paris. I remember my teacher for French saying she did not like it at all, too modern, on the old axe of the Champs Elysées and Louvre. Years later I was curious about the area and went there on a long weekend trip, hoping for some nice images. Feeling small between the buildings of big companies, rising high up over the skyline of Paris. An alienating place, where human size did not seem to matter.

The 139th Weekly Lens Artists Challenge is ‘special moments’. Pilgrims at the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa.
In March 2004 I visited Tibet. It would be an understatement if I said it was just overwhelming. The backdrop of the Himalayas. The fact that we were ‘high’: most of the time 3500 meters over sea level, my normal level of living.
The people and their close contact with religion, Buddhism. All parts of a puzzle that hopefully will bring me back there one day.

Two weeks ago I published a color version of this view. This is a silver monochrome, with a different feel towards it. It suggests a different age and time. Mono, with a hint of sepia, brings this image back years to the previous century. Or am I old and going soft in melancholy? The 137th Weekly Lens Artists Challenge is about ‘soft’.
