Ripples

France, St. Georges-sur-l’Aa, July 2022

LAPC #209 is surreal. In the north of France on the west coast, just over the border with Belgium, is a wood of pylons with powerlines. Like an army stepping into the world, over a field of ripples, in St. Georges-sur-l’Aa.

Over

The Netherlands, Oegstgeest – May 2022

At times the incoming traffic for Schiphol gets annoying. Especially when it is cloudy. The limit for approach is 600 feet here. They do create graphic images at time. That is a small benefit.

Sepia over Den Haag

The Netherlands, Den Haag – April 2022

The Lens-artists challenge #197 is ‘rule of thirds’. The rule of thirds is a rule of thumb how to compose images. But a photo that creates a journey of the eye can also be made by using lines and colors. This is the view from Den Haag Central Station to Scheveningen.

High Altitude Family Portrait Tibet 2004

Tibet, Karo La – April 2004

Travel has taught me to be bold and kind to try and make contact and produce the photos you really want. But sometimes you have to pay money as well. A family portrait on high altitude (5000 meters) in the Himalay on Karo La. Part of a family that lived on the pass, with a yak, a goat and dogs. This week’s theme for the Lens Artists Photo Challenge #184 is ‘Travel has taught me’.

Naxos Sunrise

Lost in translation

Greece, Naxos – July 1983

Reading about the theme this week, I instantly had to think of this sign on a beach in Naxos Greece in July 1983. Sometimes things go wrong in a funny way, trying to communicate from a native language to English. This week’s theme for the Lens Artists Photo Challenge #184 is ‘Travel has taught me’.

No One is an Island

Greece, Lesbos – July 2007

Off the west coast of Lesbos.

No man is an island,
Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thy friend’s
Or of thine own were:
Any man’s death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee. John Donne

England, Southwell – December 2015

The theme for this week’s Lens-artists Photo Challenge #176 is One image/one story. That theme matches the subject of my photo blog: What’s (in) the picture? Finding stories. Photo’s tell stories. My story (what made me click my shutter), and the story of the spectator, as I wrote earlier.
