Danger: No Nukes 1982

The weekly theme is ‘danger’.

In the 1980’s at the end of the Cold War there was a strong anti nuclear platform in The Netherlands: the intention to deploy tactical cruise missiles in The Netherlands met a lot of opposition. One of the events was No Nukes, a concert with bands in Utrecht. This is one of the photos from the archive of that event. It was a grim period, where the mutual threat of nuclear annihilation of the Eastern and Western block was thought to save us all just from that. It seems we are heading into a new nuclear race again. Not a thrill, just danger.

Earth: Sky Blue

The weekly theme is ‘earth’.

Lost my time lost my place in
Sky blue
Those two blue eyes light your face in
Sky blue
I know how to fly, I know how to drown in
Sky blue

Warm wind blowing over the earth
Sky blue
I sing through the land, the land sings through me
Sky blue
Reaching into the deepest shade of
Sky blue

Sky blue
So tired of all this traveling
So many miles away from home
I keep moving to be stable
Free to wander, free to roam

Train pulled out said my goodbyes
Sky blue
Back on the road alone with the sky
Sky blue
There’s a presence here no one denies
Sky blue

Sky blue
So tired …..

Easy Being Green: Alternative Fact or Alternative Lie?

The weekly theme is ‘It is easy to be green’.

This power plant is fuelled by coal. One of the last remaining in The Netherlands. Coal produces carbon dioxide which is one of the drivers of global warming. The council of Amsterdam wants to close it down and offered to buy it. Dutch energy policy is aimed at sustainable natural resources in the near future. We do love to keep dry feet, that is one reason why.

This section is for some American visitors:  yes Donald Trump, this is a great power plant, managed by real good people, giving Dutch miners long lasting jobs and empowering our heavy industry to create flower bulbs to dominate the world market! And as a man of vision, truth and clarity you are right: only losers think sustainable energy will power the world in the next ten years. Global warming is a lie, of course, and you will make a deal with Mother Earth that benefits America first, first, first.

And 1, 2, 3 back to the real word of facts……………!!!
