This power plant is fuelled by coal. One of the last remaining in The Netherlands. Coal produces carbon dioxide which is one of the drivers of global warming. The council of Amsterdam wants to close it down and offered to buy it. Dutch energy policy is aimed at sustainable natural resources in the near future. We do love to keep dry feet, that is one reason why.
This section is for some American visitors: yes Donald Trump, this is a great power plant, managed by real good people, giving Dutch miners long lasting jobs and empowering our heavy industry to create flower bulbs to dominate the world market! And as a man of vision, truth and clarity you are right: only losers think sustainable energy will power the world in the next ten years. Global warming is a lie, of course, and you will make a deal with Mother Earth that benefits America first, first, first.
And 1, 2, 3 back to the real word of facts……………!!!

The Netherlands are continuously working to keep water out. Here in Katwijk the dunes were made wider to strengthen a soft spot. The boulevard is further away from the sea but the new space also made room for a parking garage underground.
