Magical Realism

The Netherlands, Den Haag – September 2019

The theme for the weekly Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #63 is ‘magical’.
Sometimes the light and a bit of a filter can tweak reality in such a way that it does not look like a real world.

A Magical Place

The Netherlands, Amsterdam – September 2019

The theme for the weekly Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #63 is ‘magical’.
The Johan Cruijff Arena, home of Ajax Amsterdam, just before the start of a home match.
One of the fixed events at a home match is a young player juggling a ball in the middle of the pitch.
This boy of 8 managed to do that 2736 times. Then he had to stop because the match started.
Apart from the magic of that boy, this is the place where Ajax creates its magic.

Walk A Line! Focus!

Belgium, Gistel-Zevekote – August 2019

This is the first time I post an entry in a theme of Frank’s Jansen Dutch goes the photo: Focus!
The photo is from a trip to Calais France, and shows the flat lands of Flanders on the coast of the Channel.
Each time of year these fields look different; in Summer they look bright and light, in Winter they can be grey and dark.
We make this trip a few times each year, and each time it reminds me of Jacques Brel’s chanson ‘mijn vlakke land’.
(The link to my 2014 post is not working any more, I cleaned up my blog a few months ago.
You can find the English and Dutch lyrics here.

Polder view

The Netherlands, Warmond – August 2019

The theme for Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #62 is ‘silhouettes’.
Instead of ‘hard’ silhouettes I find it sometimes more pleasing to show some details in the darker parts.
The darker area’s create a nice frame for the view on the polder and meadows following the canal.

Young Hands

England, Rusper – August 2019

Something old: we all know babies and the way they mesmerize us. Something new: each baby is unique. Something borrowed: he is his own boss, but for now he depends on his mother and family to be nurtured and safe. And his opa borrows him as a model, because he cannot object yet. Something blue: well, the sweater. This little boy is a treasure and brings so much happiness and love.

The theme for Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #58 is ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue’. For more information on how to join the Lens-Artists Photo Challenges, click here for details.

Seaside old glory

The Netherlands, Scheveningen – July 2019

The theme for Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #56  is Seashores and/or Lakeshores. Scheveningen used to be a small fishing village but now is part of Den Haag.
The Kurhaus is the only remaining old building. In the sixties everything except the Kurhaus was demolished and replaced by modern type buildings. Killing the sight and sphere of the coastline.
